The organizing committee of the II International Congress on Education for Sustainable Development (CIEDS 2021) reported that the research selected to be presented at the meeting may be part of a special edition completely dedicated to research on the subject of education for the sustainable development of the scientific journal Sustainability.

“This edition will allow the efforts and findings of researchers and teachers to be known by people beyond their close networks, contributing to the international discussion in the area. Furthermore, it is a very good opportunity to leave a high-quality record of the research and theoretical discussion that is shared in the Congress ”, explains Martín Bascopé, coordinator of the Education for Sustainable Development line at Cedel UC.

Until November 15, applications for papers and educational experiences will be received, the results of which will be announced on November 30. The papers that will be part of the congress will be selected by a panel of experts from the different organizations that make up the academic committee: The UC Center for Local Development (CEDEL UC), the Center for Educational Justice (CJE), the Center for Policy Studies and Practices in Education (CEPPE) and the Nucleus of Normality, Difference and Education (NDE).

In the first version of the CIEDS, a fertile space for discussion on education with a focus on sustainable development was generated, from initial to higher education. Experiences in the open air, with forests and orchards as pedagogical tools were analyzed by participants and researchers from different disciplines, as well as projects led by Cedel UC, in alliance with organizations such as Explora and the UC Villarrica Campus.

“One of the most outstanding experiences by the attendees was the school research focused on citizen science for sustainability, where the school research on wildlife monitoring with photo trapping was reviewed in detail,” explains Bascopé, referring to an Explora initiative led by Cedel UC researcher, Nicolás Gálvez. This second congress also promises to be a new instance to debate on values associated with sustainability, as well as the importance of citizen training and of the networks around educational establishments to strengthen the link between schools and their territories.
