James Cresswell has worked with immigrants affected by war, and discusses how to think about educational work with that community. On the one hand, we can understand education as oriented towards the realization of a beautiful life, taking as inspiration Schiller and Aristotle; on the other, we can see it utilitarianly, as a means for the socioeconomic integration of the immigrant in the culture that has received him or her. Between these two alternatives, Cresswell discussed various paradoxes that appear when working with immigrants. Then, a conversation was raised regarding the teacher’s ethical role and the challenges of wanting to respect their cultures and traditions while seeking to help them stay and rise up.
